Schemes of the Lich King
The Bitterwood refers to the large forest that encompasses the territory owned by the Grand Duchy of Terros and within its borders contains Dragonmeet and a variety of other small villages and towns. Shaydenhall at the edge to the northwest is property of the Dragon Empire as is Glittergarden to the south west. To complicate matters, the hidden city of Mournscape, capital of the Shadow Elf empire, also is within the Bitterwood. Whereas Shadow Port is technically not in the Bitterwood, it is on a large island mass right off the coast. Some of the smaller villages in Bitterwood consist of Mercy, Redvale, Southill and Swynholt.
The Bitterwood is home to many dangerous creatures if not careful. Ogres, hill giants, owlbears and even manticores have all been spotted over the years but when they are the Golden Order of the Order of the Burning Rose are quickly dispatched to address the problem. Dealing with bandits, however, is more of a concern due to the cunning nature of the more intelligent races.
All of the people and races who dwell within the Bitterwood rely on it for their livelihood whether it is the shelter it provides, the timber that can be cut for logging and profit or the serenity that can be gained from the trees and groves. But scholars estimate that in the numerous ages that preceeded the 13th, there are countless dungeons, forts and sunken temples that have yet to be discovered, prompting the Half-Moon Exploring Company to mount numerous expeditions.
